What is a GREEN ROOF?
A GREEN ROOF replaces conventional tile or asphalt
with a living roof, composed of a thin layer of foliage
over growth medium, drainage material, and a
waterproofing membrane. Green roofs are also known
as ecoroofs due to their environmental benefits,
and because they come in many colors.
An ECOROOF restores the habitat from
the building's footprint, reduces stormwater
runoff, dampens noise, and provides excellent insulation,
which reduces heating and cooling costs, and doubles the
roof's lifetime. Vegetated roofs are visually pleasing
and
also meet criterion for green building incentives in
many U.S. cities.
